System Reboot Needed

Last Wednesday, I had to jumpstart my systems to finally face reality -- it's time to get back to work.

That's because the last three weeks have been erratic since the birth of my daughter, Ikai. Add to that the privilege of the 7-day paternity leave which I had to take staggeredly because of conflicts of work. However, I did enjoy a 6-day mini-vacation since Thursday last week and only reported back to work a couple of days back.

NOVEMBER 30 - Paternity Leave
DECEMBER 1 - Holiday (Andres Bonifacio Day moved)
DECEMBER 2 - Saturday
DECEMBER 3 - Sunday
DECEMBER 4 - Paternity Leave
DECEMBER 5 - Paternity Leave

It was the 6-day mini-vacation that deadened my workaholic system in the first place. Imagine ... 6 straight freaking days doing absolutely nothing related to work! I did promise myself before the start of the vacation to work on some stuff but somehow the vacation mode immediately set in. Probably because the past couple of weeks have also been ... pleasantly disrupted ... with the baby and the need to be a doting father.

But lest you get the idea that I was bumming around in that aforementioned 6 days off, I wasn't! I was busy doing daddy-stuff and being the grocer as my wife needs to be constantly by Ikai's side or otherwise our little mischievous angel will topple the walls of the house with her sonic bursts!

I also had to take my turn taking care of the baby especially at night when my wife just couldn't resist taking 40 winks. She deserved it, mind you, because she took care of Ikai for most of the daytime.

Sleep has also been a cherish these past few days because little Ikai had this tendency to bawl just when you were in the juiciest part of the slumber. So, in the mornings, you feel giddy.

That's how I reported for work last Wednesday with my systems not 100%. Add to that I had to go to our other office that same day to work on emergency marketing stuff. And as luck would have it, the same friggin' thing happened yesterday!

So, two days back at work ... two days of heavy work.

The coffee jolts have not worked. Even the vitamins are not yet kicking in. Today, Friday, it's math time again as I'm due to work on the statistics and benchmarks report anew. Now, that's good frying of the brain.

I'm really looking forward to the weekend for some rest. Some real rest. Unfortunately, I don't think I'll be getting that this weekend too. Sigh.
