Our Little Baby Moved!

A historic moment happened for my wife and myself last June 21, 2006.

Our baby made its presence felt for the first time.

For the first time since she conceived and started carrying our little angel, Elvie felt something stir insider her tummy. She described it as a tickling sensation, like there was a fish swimming in her insides.

Of course, that only meant that our little baby was starting to move. This was a good sign because we had been worried for the week or so because according to our doctor’s estimates, the baby should start moving by its fifth month. Our little baby turns five months inside her mommy’s womb on Sunday, July 2.

A visit to the doctor last Friday confirmed that the sensations Elvie started experiencing the past couple of days was indeed our baby starting to move about. Dra. Villanueva asked if the sensation was akin to a wriggling worm moving inside to which my wife replied that she never had any experience with a wriggling worm. She instead described the sensation as similar to a fish swimming and our veteran doctor confirmed that such a sensation would indeed be our baby moving.

We also started introducing our baby to classical music which they say helps stimulate the mental and emotional attitude of the baby within the womb. We bought this CD from a baby shop in Glorietta a couple of weeks back which was a collection of classical music (think Mozart, Bach, Chopin, and DeBussy). Elvie uses it in the office, playing it on her PC’s cd player and hooked up earphones which she then placed on her tummy.

Rather than quiet the little angel inside, Elvie said that once she started playing the music, the movements inside became more frequent. She joked that we may have a dancer for a baby and I said, a ballroom dancer (not swing or boogie, mind you … go back to the Victorian era of ballroom dancing or at least to the Spanish occupation of the Philippines and think of the waltzes, the majorcas, etc.).

Last Friday’s check-up revealed a 150 heart beat rate for our little one, and she was positioned just below Elvie’s navel, to the left. In fact, I can feel our baby’s pulse when I put a little pressure on that part of Elvie’s tummy … faster than her mommy’s pulse. According to the baby guidebook, our little angel will be about 10 inches long now and all limbs, organs would be formed already. The baby will also begin a sucking motion wit its mouth.

In the next few months, our little one will rapidly grow and Elvie’s bulge will become bigger and even surpass my own tummy size. The movements of the baby will become more vigorous.
