mango coffee anyone?

Eons ago, I talked about orange coffee in this blog. To recall, it's my own concoction of plain black coffee with orange juice powder, mixed and blended. The result is sweet, tangy black coffee. Apparently I was not alone in acquiring such a taste because later on, Starbucks concocted their mocha valencia -- that's mainly their mocha expresso dabbed with valencia orange juice. The mocha valencia didn't last long and I was back to concocting my orange coffee when I get tired of the regular cup of joe.

So, now that I've been taking orange coffee for several days now, I've been wondering what would black coffee taste like with say, strawberry or another fruit powder juice?

So to answer the question, a couple of hours ago I bought a sachet of mango juice powder. I got black coffee and mixed in the mango juice.

The result? Firstly, it's an acquired taste. Just like orange coffee, the taste deviates from your norm of plain black coffee or coffee with milk. But unlike orange coffee which slides down your throat in a tangy way, mango coffee tastes different because of the somewhat medicine-like qualities of preserved and powdered mango. Fresh, ripe mango is ways different from the preserved fruit be it jam or candy or sun-dried. Same goes for the powdered mango juice which does not retain the taste and texture of the fruit mango.

I'm still in the midst of finishing my mango coffee but it's not something I'll likely do sometime soon. However, with still quite a lot of juice left in the 10-liter sachet, there will still be about two to three cups yet of mango coffee.

I wonder how strawberry or grape juice powder will taste with coffee?
