just a quick wednesday warble thingy

My sleeping patterns, waking hours, general mobility and location relating to family and work, and an unstable internet connection at home of late have been frentic, erratic, and eccentric hence the apparent lack of updates on this here blog for a week now.

Fortunately, I still am FB every now and then (usually after office hours), more playing those social games like Cafe World and Baking Life while keeping up with Baby Ikai (who is now in that stage where standing unaided for more than 30 secs and grasping the window sill are achievements for her) and tutoring little Ikai with her Math (yikes!), Science (yikes!), Reading, and Language lessons. So, leave me a message there or fire me an email thru my Yahoo.

Was at Olongapo last week because of work and got caught for a traffic violation inside Subic -- that traffic rule where you had to to stop for 3-5 secs before crossing an intersection without a traffic light. Yes, I do not know that there are different traffic rules inside SBMA. When I saw that everything was clear on all four views, I crossed.

An SBMA guard asked me to pull-over and I obliged and was given the briefing of what I violated. I reasoned, of course, that I was ignorant of the rule but I would submit to their disciplinary action. He then proceeded to tell me I had to pay the fine at building so and so. I asked him to accompany me. Why? Because I might get lost getting to the building he asked me to go to and in the process commit another violation like turning left or right when one wasn't supposed to.

He thought about it for a moment, went to the back of my vehicle, and walkie-talkied with probably his superior. After a minute or so, he went back to me and said he was giving me a verbal warning and I won't need to pay any fines. I thanked him and asked again for clarification re their traffic rule and shook his hand. Good chap!

Next time I go to Subic, I will need to talk first with my good friend, Wendell, who know all about Subic inside-out.

I've got several story ideas in mind ... unfortunately, not have had the time to write them all down. Just this afternoon, while scan-surfing (clicking through various familiar websites and selectively reading whatever jumps out on each 10-second stay on a webpage), an idea about a Filipino mythology-based story came into my head. This one, I think, would best be suited for the Y.A. audience. Let's see where this goes.

But my creative writing is going nowhere at this point ... sheesh and double-sheesh.

On the reading side ... I am trying to plough through Anathem. It's a slow process, unfortunately, but I think I am finally getting the rhythm of this book and the pace is picking up. I just get lost every now and then because of the jargon and language (Stephenson is really trying to ram it through your throat that this ain't Earth and this ain't Earth-culture).
