Non-Stress Test

Our baby girl will be coming very soon.

That’s the announcement made by my wife’s OB-Gynecologist yesterday, Dra. Beatrice Villanueva, when we paid her Lourdes Hospital clinic a visit yesterday afternoon.

Elvie underwent a “non-stress test” yesterday to determine the baby’s healthiness and activity upon the recommendation of Dra. Villanueva. So, up we went to Lourdes Hospitals’ 3rd floor where the Delivery Room was located and there, Elvie was closeted within the doors of the delivery room for the “non-stress test”.

The “non-stress test” was a pregnancy test to determine the amount and frequency of movement of the baby inside the womb. According to Elvie, sensors were strapped to her abdomen and she was given a button-device. The instruction to her by the doctor inside the delivery room was to push the button every time she felt our baby move, no matter how strong or weak. The sensors worked like an ECG and were connected to a sound amplifier which emitted sounds whenever movement was detected.

My wife was inside for more than hour while I waited outside, nervously.

After the test and forking over P500 for use of the delivery room, I was relieved to know that the test was positive. Our baby passed the “non-stress test” and was vigorous and very much moving. Elvie even narrated how the amplifiers boomed out each time our baby moved. And towards the conclusion of the time-structured test, our baby was making the amplifiers boom out loudly and frequently with her continuous movement eliciting a laugh from the doctor and a sigh of relief from Elvie.

Going back to Dra. Villanueva after the test and giving her the results, that’s when the good doctor announced that my wife might just give birth any day within the very few days.

Very soon folks, I’ll be adding another title to my resume … father.
