Something weird happened last night.
While onboard a jeep on my way to fetch my wife, I believe I lost about 30 seconds of my life. In that brief instance something must have blacked out, my brain must have shut down on those few seconds because I don’t have the foggiest bloody idea of what happened on those seconds!
At around 7:25 I boarded a jeepney from the RCBC Plaza bound for Guadalupe that would pass by Kalayaan and Reposo where my wife’s building was located. The route from that corner of Ayala and Buendia Avenues would pass by Ayala Avenue extension, turn left at Metropolitan Street (where the Meralco office is located) and then make a right at Zapote Street. From Zapote, the jeep would then make another right at Kalayaan Avenue and then make another left at Reposo. That was my stop.
What happened was that I was still fully aware of things during the turn at Metropolitan and then the turn at Zapote. I still remember one lady boarding the jeep at the corner of Zapote and Vito Cruz but the next thing I knew was that I was already on Kalayaan, a block away from Reposo. Now, for those unfamiliar with the route, from the corner of Zapote and Vito Cruz to Reposo, it’ll take about 20-30 seconds for a jeep to complete and that’s if there was no traffic and the right turn at the corner of Zapote and Kalayaan would mean no stoppage. And that was the case last night – there was no traffic all the way from RCBC Plaza.
But I completely forgot what transpired in that vague 30 seconds or so.
It was as if everything zonked out and I lost consciousness. But I definitely wasn’t asleep or dozing and I was not lost in thought either. It’s as if in a blink of the eye – the 30 second travel zipped by and I was completely rattled when I realized that I was already past Buddy’s (a food establishment specializing in Pancit Lucban) which was just a block away from Reposo. I didn’t remember the right turn at Kalayaan from Zapote which I would have definitely felt in the first place.
Weird, most definitely.
